An exhibition of five artists who live and work in Los Angeles comprised of drawings, pastels, photographs, and a site-specific installation. Organized by Miles Coolidge.
A unifying thread that runs through the pieces selected is a reflexive tendency to consider the vantage point from which the artistic gesture is articulated. This is reflected in the insistence on materiality inherent in Kent and Kevin Young’s wall-based installation, which uses sculptural components–various pieces of fabric and plywood–in the service of a formal language derived from painterly abstraction. As befits an exhibition in an artist-run space, this show is more explicit about the conditions of production than are most group shows found in galleries and museums.
